In the first year, perennial wildflowers put energy into roots, while fast weeds race ahead.
What to do
- For seeded areas, mow or trim to about 6 to 8 inches when weeds reach a foot or more
- Pull weeds before they set seed
- Learn what your seedlings look like so you don't pull them
- Don't worry if there are few flowers in year one
