Nesting sites for bees

Most native bees nest in the ground.

4 min read

Most native bees nest in the ground. Others use hollow stems or old wood.

Help them

  • Leave some patches of bare, sunny, undisturbed soil
  • Keep hollow stems standing
  • Leave old logs or stumps where safe
  • Skip landscape fabric and thick mulch in some areas
  • If you add a bee house, choose one you can clean or replace yearly
